Halton Elections 2026

Election day is October 26!

Municipal governments have an important role to play in creating welcoming communities through policies, programs, public spaces, funding decisions, and advocacy.

pflag Halton invited all candidates in Halton to respond to the three questions below in order to help the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and allies understand their priorities and commitments.

Thank you to all the candidates who took the time to respond!

QUESTIONS

1. Building Inclusive Communities

How will you support the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and Pride initiatives (such as flag raising ceremonies, rainbow crosswalks, Pride month) to ensure that 2SLGBTQIA+ residents, families, community organizations, and allies feel safe, welcomed, and included in your community? Will you attend Pride events? Will you advocate to keep or increase visible signs of community inclusion in Halton? Do you have other ideas for how Halton could better support the 2SLGBTQIA+ community?

2. Tackling Discrimination

In light of opposition by some to initiatives such as Pride events, 2SLGBTQIA+ programming, inclusive public spaces, 2SLGBTQIA+ books in libraries, or recognition of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, how will you, in your role, get involved to address and overcome this discrimination?

3. Meaningful Community Engagement

Will you commit to meet with pflag Halton representatives when needed to discuss issues facing 2SLGBTQIA+ residents in your community? How will you work to ensure 2SLGBTQIA+ residents have a meaningful voice in local decision making and that their needs are accounted for in town decisions?
